Tarland is a quite village with an attractive centre square. A number of prehistoric are within easy reach including Culsh Earth House, a Bronze Age below-ground dwelling, and Tomnaverie and Midmar Stone Circles. The Nature Reserve at Muir of Dinnet lies to the west. Other attractions in the area include Lumphanan Peel Ring, the Millers Visitor Centre and Cullerlie Farm Park.
