Unique as a holiday resort, St Andrews is quite simply unmatched as a place of history, beauty and lifestyle. The “Home of Golf” has played a leading part in Scottish history for centuries. Today that history is part and parcel of a thriving community as the allure of the past dovetails with the needs of the present.

The ancient Royal Burgh is without a doubt one of the great historic cities of Europe, with visitors coming to the town since religious pilgrims of the Celtic faith. Legend tells that relics of the apostle Andrew were brought to Scotland by St. Regulus who, having been shipwrecked of the Fife coast, founded a church on the site where the town now stands. St. Andrew was to become the Patron Saint of Scotland.

Obviously the fame of the “Old Course” Links and the vast St Andrews golfing complex attracts many visitors from all over the world. But the town has much more to offer, the fun of the annual Lammas Fair, the traditions of the Highland Games, many university occasions, beautiful sandy beaches, attractive landscaped parks, Botanical Gardens, a comprehensive Arts programme, the Byre Theatre are just some of the many events that take place in this wonderful town.

Sporting facilities in the town are second to none, with water sports, bowls, putting, tennis, swimming, squash and sea angling among those catered for. St Andrews is blessed with a wide range of accommodation to suit most pockets and an excellent shopping centre, which fully complements the wide and varied needs of townspeople and visitors alike. St Andrews is best explored on foot, the combination of Medieval, Victorian, and Edwardian streets forming one of the most attractive towns in Britain. Visitors will be amazed to find famous landmarks such as the Castle, Cathedral, University, and Harbour alongside a variety of shops, restaurants, theatres, museums and art galleries.
