Barton lies at the foot of the Chilterns escarpment and makes the ideal centre for walking the beautiful Barton Hills and the National Trust“s Sharpenhoe Clappers with their wealth of chalkland flowers and excellent views.
These hills are reputed to be the Delectable Mountains of John Bunyan“s Pilgrim“s Progress. Church End retains a traditional village atmosphere with a number of Tudor cottages clustered around the 12 century church of St Nicholas, which contains linenfold pews, brasses and medieval tiles. Nearby stands the Elizabethan manor house.
Barton is one of our largest villages having gained approximately 600 houses over the past 5 years. It has 2 schools, a busy youth centre (used by the youth club and scouts) and a village hall which hosts groups for all ages, including martial arts, playgroup, over sixties, an Arts Society and many more. With a good range of shops, services and pubs, Barton acts as a service centre for smaller surrounding villages and a popular stopping point between Luton and Bedford.
