A village steeped in history, Eaton Bray takes its name from the Bray family who came to the area in 1490 headed by Sir Reginald Bray, the Treasurer of England.
Previously the village was dominated by the castle of Sir William de Cantilupe, one of the barons who extorted the Magna Carta from King John.
The site is still well defined by water-filled moats, although nothing remains of the castle.
The parish church, with its Early English 13th century arcades, has one of the finest interiors in Bedfordshire.
The south door is decorated with the magnificent 13th century iron scrollwork of renowned local blacksmith, Thomas of Leighton.
The village sits right on the Buckinghamshire border and has a strong relationship with neighbouring Edlesborough (Bucks). Together they host one of the biggest village fetes every July, attracting visitors from miles around. This active rural part of South Beds also aims to rebuild its well used village hall over the next couple of years.
