Great Billington

Set on a hilltop occupied continuously since pre-Roman times, Great Billington enjoys splendid views over rich farmland that was once devoted to growing plums for use in the dye trade.
It boasts a 13th century church contained within the ramparts of an Iron Age hill fort, a 17th century manor house and several thatched cottages.
Despite its present-day pastoral calm, the village has been the scene of much excitement.
During the First World War, Linslade-built Vickers Vimy bombers were brought by road to a field below the hill for testing and take off to RFC stations.
In 1924 the Prince of Wales rode point-to-point at Billington Manor, falling and breaking his collarbone.
