The thriving village of Stanstead Abbotts lies on the edge of the River Lea.
Many of its two hundred year old High Street buildings are listed and at the bottom stands the old Clock House, which once used to be a school and is now a private home.
The 15th century red brick Rye Gatehouse stands between the River Lea and the New River and now forms part of the Lee Valley Park. There is also a colourful marina, with delightful riverside walks to enjoy, including an RSPB bird sanctuary and nature reserve.
