Visiting new places is hungry work, particularly in this part of the Cotswolds, where the steep hills will ensure that youŽll work up a hearty appetite. In fact, Nailsworth makes the ideal venue for an invigorating day out in the country.
The thoughtful people of Nailsworth have established a variety a good eating houses for walkers and non-walkers alike, where you can sample the local ice cream or revive yourself with a substantial meal, then amble around the nearby shops.
These shops are stuffed full of antiques, pine furniture, locally grown herbs, French kitchen items, fine foods and many other treats. If the fancy takes you, you can even unearth 1950s coffee pots in the junk shop, kit yourself out as a Mediaeval minstrel in the costume hire centre, or relax amongst cottage garden favourites in a waterside garden centre.
Nailsworth is increasingly becoming a centre for the arts, with an annual arts festival in May, and a number of well known artists and craftsmen who live locally. One of the focal points for artistic activities is Ruskin Mill, which is set in beautiful, organic water gardens and other artisans.
In the evening, the town offers an unusually good choice of high quality restaurants, making it an excellent base for a complete day out, a weekend break, or a longer holiday.
