Just a short tram ride north along the coast from Blackpool lies the popular seaside resort of Cleveleys, one of Wyre’s busiest shopping areas with bustling markets, seaside shops and plenty of fun. The traditional seafront provides entertainment all year round with indoor amusement arcades and bingo halls. On the corner of the promenade children can have hours of fun at Kiddies Corner with adventurous mini rides or at neighbouring Jubilee Gardens where they can set sail on the boating lake whilst adults enjoy a leisurely game of bowls. The whole family can have ago at crazy golf, pitch and putt or tennis, or simply relax and enjoy the outdoor entertainment.
More sporting hobbies can be enjoyed at the nearby leisure centre with sports classes and equipment to suit all ages and levels of fitness. Shoppers will find Cleveleys a pleasure with high street stores and markets stretching the length of the town; with plenty of bargains there is something to suit everyone. Inland at the neighbouring village of Thornton, a historic windmill, Marsh- Mil-in-Wyre has been restored to create an interesting visitor attraction. Take a guided tour to the top of the mill, visit the Northern Clog Museum or browse around the speciality shops. A popular tavern and tea room are also situated in the square and colourful outdoor events are held throughout the season from steam rallies to circus acts to Punch and Judy, dancing demonstrations and brass bands.
For a more relaxing day out visit the Wyre Estuary Country Park also at Thornton where you can enjoy riverside walks, country picnics and beautiful scenery. Explore the interesting visitor centre located within the park or discover the wildlife from the popular bird hide on the banks of the River Wyre. Other family events taking place throughout the town include Cleveleys Jubilee Day, a festival of fun for all the family and Cleveleys Jazz Festival as well as the traditional gala procession which parades throughout the streets in June.
