The breathtaking sunsets and views across the bay to the Lake District mountains beyond have always marked out Morecambe as somewhere special. Referred to as “The Naples of the North” and “The Sunset Coast” in the past, in recent years the resort’s regeneration has made it England’s most talked about seafront. Morecambe has long been a mecca for bird watchers, as the Bay is an internationally important breeding ground for various species of migratory birds. With 5 miles of level promenade at the resort, Morecambe offers glorious views and is now resplendent with superb public artworks. However the most famous piece of artwork in the town has to be the statue of Eric Morecambe with the lyrics “Bring me Sunshine” carved into the curved granite steps leading up to the statue.
The Platform arts venue and Tourist Information Centre are housed in the converted former railway station. Modern family attractions abound, including a ten-pin bowling alley, Megazone laser experience and multi screen cinema. Morecambe also has a huge choice of excellent cafes, restaurants and some of the best fish and chips in the country. At the northern end of the promenade is Happy Mount Park, offering attractions for all ages, from crown green bowling to trampolines and swingboats, along with a paddling pool for those hot summer days.
Morecambe also offers a wide range of shopping, whether you are searching for designer gear or bargains. A range of traditional seaside shops offers souvenirs and gifts along with a Sunday market and a Festival Market.
