The ancient market town of Poulton-le-Fylde with its cobbled streets, market place, medieval stocks and historic church attracts visitors year after year. Once a busy port the Skippool area of Poulton derived its name from “Pool Town” and can be found mentioned in the doomsday book. Today, Skippool is home to a variety of traditional boats; old and new which are moored side by side along the banks of the estuary. With a connecting pathway to the Wyre Estuary Country Park, Skippool is the perfect retreat for a relaxing day out.
Poulton’s fascinating history can be traced on one of the regular town trails organised by the local historical society. In contrast to its ancient centre, Poulton boasts two modern shopping arcades and a variety of quaint café’s, restaurants and traditional pubs to suit individual tastes. For the more active Poulton has testing 9 hole golf course situated alongside a modern swimming centre.
The parish church of St. Chad’s in the heart of town is one of the most picturesque buildings in the area. With its colourful gardens, brimming with flowers, it is no wonder that Poulton-le-Fylde regular takes pride of place in the prestigious Britain in Bloom competition.
