Discover the City of Surprises, Canterbury offers its visitors more than just an opportunity to marvel at the beauty and splendour of its famous Cathedral. The City, known as the “Historic Heart of the Garden of England”, has fine examples of the best English Heritage boasting three world sites and award – winning museums. But a visit to Canterbury is not all history. Past and present live side by side and visitors quickly discover the vibrant modern city which has developed gradually but in sympathy with its medieval heart.

A truly cosmopolitan atmosphere pervades Canterbury’s traffic – free streets, where international visitors mingle with local people and street entertainers in a lively melee. Shopping is a particular pleasure in Canterbury with its wide range of well – known department stores or enormous choice of small specialists shops and the new Longmarket Shopping Mall with its rooftop café and Roman Museum underneath.

Park Wood Village Holiday Centre is attractively situated in park and woodland which adjoins the ancient forest of Blean. The village is part of the 300-acre campus of the University of Kent at Canterbury. Just 20 minutes walk from the centre of Canterbury you can enjoy an entirely independent holiday or take advantage of the many facilities the university offers.

As you would expect from a holiday centre, Park Wood Village offers every facility: ample car parking bays adjacent to each house, launderette, village store, telephones, access to the University Medical Centre and free sports facilities. During your holiday you will have free access to the University’s Sports Centre with activities ranging from tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash and multi-gym.

The nearby coastal towns of Herne Bay and Whitstable offer excellent water sports facilities and are set amongst the many picturesque villages. There are a wide variety of attractions to be discovered, from historic houses and castles to “rare breed” centres, wildlife parks, heritage centres, steam railways, museums, amusement parks, and vineyards. Between them they offer visitors a complete holiday package at any time of the year.
