The beautiful medieval market town of Dorking is renowned for West Street, which has attained international status as a centre for antiques.
One of the houses on West Street was at one time owned by William Mullins, one of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.
Dorking also has a musical history, having been home to the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, who founded the Leith Hill Music Festival. Dorking Halls, was built in 1931 to house the Festival and to this day still presents a varied programme of arts and entertainment.
Dorking“s darkest secret are its caves, which were carved out of sandstone in the 17th Century and descend approximately 56 feet below street level.
