Brading, just a few miles inland from Sandown, used to be a busy port. A walk along Quay Lane, past the Norman church and Brading Wax Works, will take you down to the former harbour wall. The town also offers a new Roman Villa Visitor Centre, where people can marvel at the achievements of the Romans.

There are plenty of things to do and see in Brading. Set in three quarters of an acre, the Brading Wax Works comprises of three distinct elements, The Rectory Mansion, the popular Chamber of Horrors and World of Nature - a natural History Museum. Rub shoulders with famous and infamous characters, across 2000 years of the Island’s colourful history from Roman times to the present day in The Rectory Mansion.

Photograph your own execution in The Chamber of Horror’s where many of the more ingenious methods of torture used throughout the ages are on display, including the authentic world famous Instruments of Torture from the Royal Castle of Nuremberg.

In the World of Nature, A stroll through the Castle Courtyard brings you this unusual Museum. Here one can study at close quarters animals, birds and reptiles from all over the World. Also on display is ’Professor Copperthwaite’s Fabulous Exhibition of Oddities’ containing some amazing and bizarre creatures, including the elusive Yeti! Visitors also have the option to watch the fascinating art of candle carving, and demonstrations are regularly given from Easter to September. There is also a Gift shop and free parking at the rear of the site.

Other popular attractions are the Lilliput Museum of Antique Dolls & Toys, which contains one of the finest collections of old and antique dolls and toys in the country. Morton Manor, Anglo-Saxon for ’by the water’, was a hamlet on the edge of Brading Harbour, and is said by many to have the most beautiful gardens on this ’Garden Isle’. Nunwell House is a picturesque house that has been a family home since 1522 and is of great historic and architectural interest. Nunwell is surrounded by 5 acres of tranquil gardens, including a walled garden, enjoying views across to the Solent.
