At the centre of Chalgrove is the village green, surrounded by thatched cottages, the Red Lion public house, owned by the church, and the village brook.

St Mary“s Church is of Norman origin and has a chancel covered in 14th century wall paintings. The manor house, part of which dates from the 13th century, has recently been restored and is open to the public on request.

To the north of the village is Chalgrove Field, included on the English Heritage“s battlefield register, where Prince Rupert defeated a superior force of parliamentarians in 1643 and John Hampden was mortally wounded, marked by a monument erected in 1843 by Lord Nugent.
