Nettlebed
   Share

Nettlbed in South Oxfordshire is a village of 700 inhabitants set in beautiful wooded countryside. The church dates from 1846 and many of the dwellings are listed buildings.

Nettlebed was the most important brick and tile-making centre in the Chilterns from the mid 14th century onwards. In 1365, 35,000 tiles were made for Wallingford Castle. One brick kiln remains and is a focal point of the village, and two pudding stones are thought to be millions of years old.

Today, the village includes a large hotel with restaurant, an Austrian restaurant, a thriving post office/shop and a lively primary school.
