The small, quiet village of North Stoke in South Oxfordshire has several interesting old farmhouses and farm buildings, and a former mill which harnessed stream water from a lake created from live springs. The church is noted for its medieval wall paintings and unique mass dial.
The multi-gabled Springs Hotel was the former home of Deep Purple guitarist Ian Gillan and still has his guitar-shaped swimming pool in the grounds.
Dame Clara Butt, the opera singer, is buried in the churchyard.
