A spectacular, unspoilt market town set at the intersection of two very ancient roads with a magnificent minster at its heart. Famed worldwide for its carpet-making since 1755. This well preserved town has many quaint streets radiating out from the central square.
Just to the west of Axminster is the National Trust property of Shute Barton Manor, which claims to have the largest fireplace in England (and possibly the world)! The fireplace is 22 feet in width and stands 7 feet in height. Axminster is perfectly situated to access the Blackdown Hills, Hardy’s Dorset and Lyme Regis.
