At the southern most end of Tor Bay and nestled in amongst the cliffs is Brixham., one of Britain’s most beautiful harbours and a working fishing port to this day. Colourful cottages housing seafood restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs huddle round the harbour and then wind there way through the pretty narrow streets.
Life in Brixham revolves around the harbour. Here, the town’s active fishing fleet shares the water with leisure craft from the new marina and the multitude of boats offering pleasure or fishing trips to excited visitors. Leaving the harbour behind, some of the Riviera’s most spectacular scenery is to be found here, with sandy beaches and secluded coves giving way to the beauty of Berry Head. This stunning headland – the site of two Napoleonic forts – is now a haven for wildlife and the start of one of the most dramatic stretches of the South West Coast Path.
Many of the attractions in the area centre on the heritage of this famous port, Culminating in the annual Brixham heritage Festival and the trawler race around the Bay. The Heritage fleet is also something not to be missed. The fleet of beautiful wooden sailing trawlers celebrate fishing under sail and can often be seen gracing the bay. Harbourside hotels, guest houses and apartments or spacious holiday parks make Brixham a popular holiday choice.
