Colyton - “the most rebellious town in Devon” - nestles amongst the achingly beautiful scenery at the confluence of two ancient rivers: the River Coly and the River Axe. A historic town that is based around a circular street pattern of Saxon design – often referred to as a maze. The town centre is a conservation area that mixes substantial “wealthy” town houses with little stone cottages.
Nearby is the Colyton to Seaton Tramway terminus – a short walk or ride by the horse-drawn “wagon wanderer”, making this ideal to take in the rural idyll and then take a historic electric tram down the prehistoric Axe Valley, through the nature reserves and marshes to the dramatic World Heritage Coast at Seaton.
