Portishead is a town with a fine heritage and a rich shipping history.
Its Victorian terraces and mansions sit close to the sea, overlooking the Severn Estuary, just two miles from the M5 motorway.
Extending along the seafront are the Lake Grounds which have been offering visitors the perfect place to relax since the lake was dug, by hand, in 1910. Boating, canoeing, paddling and putting are regular activities with cricket matches played on the tree-fringed grounds during the summer months.
Summer is also the season to enjoy the popular outdoor pool on Portishead seafront. A little further down the coast are the picnic grounds and the golf course. When the sun is not shining, many flock to the new state of the art Parish Wharf Leisure Centre. There are spectacular views along the coastal walks, and further inland the beautiful Gordano Valley offers excellent country walks.
An impressive regeneration scheme is underway at Portishead´s docks - moorings are now available. The multi-million pound project will eventually encompass waterside housing, a marina, bars, restaurants, shops and offices creating a whole new environment by 2006.
