The evidence is all around you in this beautiful, welcoming town – in its abbey church with its delicate fan-vaulting and stained glass windows, its several famous schools, the 15th century almshouse, the time worn old castle and more recent Sherborne Castle, built by sir Walter Raleigh.
It was the inspired work of Capability Brown which linked the two castles by a serene lake and enfolded them in a landscaped park.
