In the 20 years or so since its first properties were built, Ingleby Barwick has emerged as one of the North Eastīs premier housing developments.
There are currently four completed villages and a further two being developed, which are currently home to some 6,000 households, making up a population of more than 15,000 residents.
In the mid-1970s, Ingleby Barwick was identified as a potential growth area and planning permission was granted, on appeal, in 1978.
Now this part of the Stockton borough continues to grow and boasts a supermarket, petrol station, two pubs, a health centre, a shopping area, two churches and a veterinary practice, lending itself to a thriving community centre with a real community feel.
Work is currently under way on a secondary school and two new primary schools, due to open in 2003. The campus will also feature community facilities including a sports hall and library.
Ingleby Barwick is represented on Stockton Council and has its own parish council. In 2000, it was granted its own coat of arms, presented by Lord Gisborough, former Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.
