Reeth is strategically placed at the junction with Arkengarthdale and Swaledale, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is an ideal place for a walking holiday all year round with challenging walks over the tops and lovely riverside country walks. The expensive village green, surrounded by 18th century houses, forms the focal point of many popular local events.
Whilst the town initially served the needs of the local farming community, it also became a centre for hand-knitting and the local lead industries. Today there are a variety of craft workshops and tearooms to tempt you, and a market every Friday, making Reeth an excellent stopping of point. The village has played host to many films and TV series, most notably “All Creatures Great and Small”.
Things to do and see in Reeth include The Swaledale Folk Museum – learn how local people used to live, their farming, lead mining and pastimes. Award winning, all weather Hazel brow Farm Visitor Centre on a family run, organic farm in nearby Low Row. There are walks; activities for children, craft and butter making demonstrations where you can even have ago yourself. The Reeth Dales Craft Centre has unusual and high quality arts and crafts.
